Get Creative with the Fablehaven Book of Imagination–Review

Fablehaven Book of Imagination Review
by Marie Leslie
Fablehaven Book of Imagination by Brandon Mull

Are you ready to get creative? Author Brandon Mull’s description of Fablehaven Book of Imagination says “this [book] is only half-finished. . . . The missing ingredient is you! Begin by writing your name in the space provided on the front cover. Then get ready to write, draw, solve, and create, guided by the many activities inside!”

Fablehaven Book of Imagination definitely has many activities inside. It has more than 150 pages of creativity to exercise and spark your imagination. While the book is more fun if you’re familiar with the Fablehaven series, it’s still fun for the novice. For those not familiar with Fablehaven, once your kids get their hands on this book, you’ll want to add the Fablehaven series along with it. You can find the complete Fablehaven series on Amazon here. In addition, there are clues to decode a secret message from Brandon Mull spread throughout the book.

And this book is filled with all kinds of fun activities. From instructions for making an origami model of Raxtus the Dragon to a recipe for Ogre Stew (stew for ogres to eat, not stew made out of ogres) to coloring pages and crafts inspired by the Fablehaven books, this book will keep the Fablehaven fans at your house (or even the ones who aren’t) busy well beyond their winter break.

Craft instructions are clear and well-illustrated enough that readers from elementary age on up will be able to complete them successfully without needing to ask mom or dad to do it for them.  The book includes a variety of activities that will engage all their creative parts. There’s origami, drawing, writing, cooking and puzzles and mazes, in addition to the secret code. In fact, if you have more than one Fablehaven fan, while they can certainly share this book, it’s affordable and fun enough that you may want to buy everyone his or her own copy.

And you’re going to want a shiny new pack of colored pencils for all the fun and creativity you’re going to make with this book. I recommend these colored pencils.
